Around 1900

 

Robert Hugo Bernstein establishes an electrical wholesale firm in Döbeln (Saxony)

1922

 

His sons Hans and Herbert establish "Monopol GmbH" in Leipzig with telecommunications products

1946

 

The company is held "in trust" by the Soviet military administration

1947

 

Permission to set up a production branch in the west

Hans Bernstein takes on this task, while his brother Herbert stays in Leipzig. By chance, the place where Hans Bernstein starts production of switches becomes Porta Westfalica

1970

 

The Röcke branch factory is established and sensor production starts

Start of export business

1978

 

Hans Bernstein dies. His widow, Ursula Bernstein, and their sons Hans Joachim and Thomas take over the businesses

Compact Gehäuse GmbH is established and enclosure production starts

1982

 

The Hartum branch factory is established and enclosure production is transferred

Secomex GmbH in Eickhorst is established for producing explosion protected devices

The production factories in Germany are combined under the name of Bernstein AG
